2025. Who Is She?

 2024… Welp.

2025, here we are! Buckle up!

But on day one two of the new year, here I am. Here we all are. Meteors (hopefully figurative) and pandemonium will keep coming, and we’ll still be here. Whether it’s surviving or thriving or sleeping, that’s an accomplishment in itself.

I’m way out of “comebacks.” I’ll always have excuses, but those aren’t funny. So I’ll just be here, on day one two of 2025 and onward. We’ll all be here together. Me and all 2 of you who read this.

I have actual “goals” for The Hen in 2025, and I’m not sharing them. I can’t fail if no one can hold me accountable! HA! But I will say I am here TRYING; trying my best to still share some cackles or something and write some words for my petite coop, even if they’re not all published. (You’ll never know about my spring hiking trip where I kept startling a midwestern woman! Sad!) So flying into a new year, Hen is taking a new approach to writing, at least for this article. Since most of us here would like a RE-DO for 2024 but can’t get one, I’m focusing on unsolicited advice that’s helping me thrive (mostly…sort of… MOMMY!) in the hangover of 2024. And you can trust me: all my therapists say I’m doing really well.

The 2015 is Coming!

Being Britney Spears.
Now that Christmas is over, it's that dreaded time of year where I feel obligated to make up some New Year's resolutions and then justify why I didn't do the ones fully from the year before. In 2012, I survived the apocalypse, and then felt capable of bettering myself in 5 ways. In 2013, I didn't feel like making up new resolutions, but I looked back at the year and focused on the random things I did in lieu of the dumb resolutions. This year, I'm too mentally exhausted and/or clinically unstable to do any of these things, so I turned to the Internet for help in finding resolutions I won't keep, but might make a half-decent article.

2013 - I Did Things

As a new year without a foreseen apocalypse approaches, people around the world are making lists of resolutions that they'll do until they become mildly inconvenient in mid-January. There are always the exceptions of resolutions that survive the winter and help change our lives for the better, but whatever the result, it's always good to have goals to better ourselves. If nothing else, we at least get a year older.

Last year, I was ambitious and inspired after our world didn't implode, so I made a list of resolutions for 2013.  Without a silly omen to worry about this year, I am less inspired to make a list of resolutions for 2014. But since last year's article was mildly popular, I thought I'd reflect on my ambitions for 2013 and see how successful I was. If I didn't fulfill them, I'll make note of something I did instead. I at least got out of bed 365 times and things happened.

I Resolve Not to Listen to the Ancient Mayans Again

Last year, I avoided the subject of New Year's resolutions by writing a more worldly piece on Britney Spears. I resolved that if we survived the 2012 apocalypse, I'd make some New Year's resolutions. Thanks for the false prediction, Mayans, because now I need to come up with some resolutions. So here we go - The Cackling Hen's first (and maybe last) official set of New Year's resolutions!
Everyone will love it.

  • Write daily in my future best-selling novel. Most of you don't know that I am working on a revealing "tell all" about an undisclosed sport that will sell millions of copies. But when I say "working on," that really means I started it last summer (okay, late spring!) with gusto and haven't written a thing in six months. Sure, it may be following the same pattern of my previous failed book attempts, but this one has the most promise. I'm hoping my writing is at least better now than in my unfinished novel I wrote in 8th grade about Cubans in America on the run.

Happy New Spears!

2011 has flown the coup, but not without leaving plenty of stray feathers by which to remember it. A new year comes with a chance to start fresh, make changes in our lives and resolutions we won't keep after January 7. I resolve to finish this post before that date.

Every year, there are countless events throughout the world that catch us by surprise and make us ponder our own existence and the finality of life on earth. The return of Britney Spears in full force after a short hiatus clearly made the most timeless impression, because I dare you to get the chorus of "I Wanna Go" out of your head. Now I wanna go too, wherever the hell it is.
